Treats so good you’ll be glad you’re quarantined…
This amped up version of the classic Rice Krispie Treat is a 10! It’s an easy recipe to tackle at home with your kids – quarantined or not. It requires only a few ingredients, is quick to make and is worth every calorie!
What’s different about these? Just a bit more butter (double…) which you toast until it’s brown and nutty and the addition of some coarse salt, minor tweaks. But they change everything.
Salted Brown Butter Crispy Treats
4 ounces unsalted butter
1 10 ounce bag of marshmallows
1/4 teaspoon course sea salt
6 cups crispy rice cereal
Spray an 8 inch square pan and set aside for later. In a large pot, melt the butter over medium low, stirring frequently. It will melt, then foam, then turn clear golden and finally start to turn brown and smell nutty. Don’t take your eyes off the pot because the period between the butter beginning to take color and burning happens quickly.
As soon as it browns and you can see the nutty color, turn the heat off and stir in the marshmallows.
Stir the marshmallows until they are smooth and fully melted. You should see lots of flecks of dark brown throughout from the browned butter.
Add the salt and the cereal into the pot and stir together until all the rice cereal is coated evenly. Quickly spread the cereal mixture into the greased pan and press firmly down to make even.
Let cool completely, then cut into squares. You should get (16) 2-inch squares.
Hope you enjoy these and are staying safe! XOXO
